Now in its fifth year, St Kilda News is a local community newspaper and online media publisher, operating as part of the Open News Group.

Open News is an independent media publishing Social Enterprise that thrives on Citizen Journalism for a bulk of its online and offline content. After more than 4 years of operating with its very first community newspaper – St Kilda News, Open News Group are now the head publishing organisation behind the following publications distributed through local pick-up hot spots.

1. St Kilda News

2. The Northsider (Melbourne’s North side)

3. The Westsider (Melbourne’s West side)

4. The Situation (North East Victoria from Albury to Bendigo and surrounds)

5. G-Town News (Geelong surrounds)

6. The Eastsider (NSW – Bondi)

7. The Situation (NSW – Shoalhaven)


The Role (Social Media Coordinator)

A wonderful opportunity has arisen to join our team as our Social Media Coordinator. The hours are casual/ Part Time and you can work from the comfort of your home with a need to report to the office once at week (at the most).


You will be required to –

– Update Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc with relevant community focused content

– Aim to drive traffic to www.stkildanews.com whilst keeping your focus on driving readership of print version of the paper. Being a print publication, our first priority is to get the community picking up the papers from their nearest pick-up hot spot.

– Share information about what’s hot and what’s not

– Drive online engagement with topical content of key importance to local residents and business owners

– Be the voice of the local community without any personal endorsement of politically incorrect expression

– Field advertising inquiries from various Social Media profiles and forward them accordingly to Digital or Print Media Sales and Marketing Managers

– Cover Not for Profit local events of interest to local community and promote them with permission from Managing Editor / Digital Strategy Manager.

– Any ad hoc tasks as and when required as part of your role within Social Media Management.


Reporting to the Managing Editor, you will be the Social champion, a key player in executing The Social Media content strategy across multiple platforms including but not limited to –

1. Facebook

2. Twitter

3. Instagram

4. Pinterest


Working closely with the Digital Strategy Manager and Managing Editor, you will be at the forefront of our Social Media community development initiatives to reflect the voice of our local community.


To be considered –

You love living a St Kilda local and living in this fabulous bayside suburb.

You have qualification background or interest in Digital Marketing

Are willing to commit to at least 6 months of working with St Kilda News Newspaper.

Have Minimum 3-6 months of experience in Social Media or a degree in Marketing

Have a good understanding of digital trends and willingness to understand social media management platforms and reporting tools as and when necessary.

You understanding brand and voice with proven copywriting skills are essential Work calmly under pressure, strong attention to detail and be able to think on your feet!
