Ukulele Ladies launch guerilla campaign

The St Kilda based Ukulele Ladies plus A Couple of Blokes has launched a guerilla music campaign to bring the delights of the ukulele to the public.

Instead of formal concerts or gigs the Ukulele Ladies and Blokes will just turn up at a restaurant or event with their ukes and play a couple of numbers.

Their first musical assault took place at Lina’s Bistro au Vin in Albert Park last week.

Natalya Vagner, a spokeswoman for the Ladies and Blokes, said the guerilla campaign built on public performances at the Bay Street Festival and also radio appearances on the ABC’s 774.

“The ukulele is a fun instrument and we want to use that playfulness to brighten up a person’s day,” she said.

“We enjoy public performances and the joy ukuleles bring. The spontaneity of our guerilla music campaign fits the character of the ukulele.”

“We intend to just pop up here and there and play a couple of numbers, give some pleasure to people whilst enjoying ourselves.”

So, if you get caught in one of the Ukulele Ladies plus A Couple of Bloke’s musical campaign just sit back and enjoy it, is the advice of Ms Vagner.
