Some will rejoice, others will not welcome the news. The iconic and infamous Hotel on Fitzroy Street in St Kilda is being advertised by Realtors Lemon Baxter

This marks the likely end of its chapter as a halfway house. The 1938 building is likely to become a boutique hotel, the Age has reported.

The two sisters that run the Gatwick are in their 60s and are retiring. They recently participated in a short documentary ‘Saints of St Kilda’ (https://youtu.be/qiMEeUVWJlY) where they describe how they have devoted their lives to the residents who may soon find themselves without a home.

Last year traders on Fitzroy Street called for the Gatwick’s closure and blamed it for the street’s decline.

The property is offered for sale via a forthcoming Expression of Interest campaign that will close on 1 March 2016.
