The Fashion Fix – Coat Yourself in Warmth

Brrr, winter is here and it’s time to find out which coats are “in season”.

The perfect coat is a winter essential- and there’s nothing better than feeling warm on a chilly day while still looking fabulous.

A good quality coat can last you seasons. However, if you’re feeling a little drab in your old black coat, I can point you in the right direction for the coolest coats this winter.

First of all, if you don’t know what a cocoon coat is then hit the shops (or maybe online shops in this weather). Cocoon is the biggest shape in coats this season.

Cocoon coats start up close to the neck and are quite often collarless. They mostly have a rounded and sometimes dropped shoulder shape. The cocoon coat then curves outwards, away from the body at the waist. It then finishes back close to the body, usually on the thighs.

This shape will not define your waist and generally works on all body shapes. They are super comfortable and easy to throw over just about anything.

But what if the cocoon style doesn’t suit you? Don’t worry, there are always options.

Pick a coat the suits your body shape and just make sure it has fur or wool trims. Fur and wool collars, lapels and trims are everywhere this season. They’re great for added warmth and they look chic!

Also keep an eye out for oversized blazer styles, extreme lapels and patterns. Any of these features add focal points to a coat.

If you’re after a coat in the colour of the season it has to be pastel or powder blue. This hue will lighten a drab winter wardrobe and looks great with fair skin.

After you’ve found your perfect coat, pair it with knee high leather boots and you’re ready to brave the cold.
