TEDxStKilda: New Ideas at the Old Town Hall

By  |  0 Comments

Q. What do bionic eyes and architecture have in common? How about violence and virtual reality?

A. They’re all topics up for discussion at this year’s TEDxStKilda event

We are very proud and excited to announce that TEDx is coming to sunny St Kilda on March 29th this year! TED talks are powerful, inspiring, informative, and innovative, and the independently-run TEDx event will proudly continue that tradition. The event will have an amazing line-up of speakers keen to share their knowledge and visions for our world and future.

Hosted at the historic and lovely St Kilda Town Hall, the theme of TEDxStKilda will be ‘When Dark Meets Light’. Obviously this is a broad topic; light and dark can be representative of all opposites and contrasts in our lives – but the organisers think that this makes for a more intriguing event! Speakers will reveal the light and dark (and the fifty non-BDSM shades of grey in-between) of their experiences.

TEDxStKilda is thrilled to present a diverse group of speakers from many different backgrounds, speaking on many different topics. As St Kilda folk, we thrive on diversity and we delight in the unconventional. You can expect the TEDx event to entice your thoughts, educate your mind and electrify your spirit!

Anticipate new ideas and inspiring stories, including pioneering research on the bionic eye, new frontiers in virtual reality, the alpha generation, and what we can learn from animals about colour. Talks will also cover architecture and community living, as well as difficult issues of violence and society, and the power of music in cultural exchange across Oceania. However, this is just some of what you can expect to hear at TEDxStKilda.

Rest assured, the TEDxStKilda speakers will be announced in due course and tickets will be on sale (see details below) from March 1st! The best way to remain up-to-date and in the know is through the TEDx social media and mailing list. You can follow them on Facebook (TEDxStKilda) or Twitter (@TEDxStKilda) or subscribe to their mailing list at www.tedxstkilda.com.

TED has long been associated with promoting the spread and discussion of unique, powerful and inspiring ideas through its conferences. These discussions are also made available to the wider public with high-quality video recordings of events being published for free online. TED talks have an international presence, but in the spirit of accessible knowledge and discussion, the organisation has developed TED at a local level as well. These local TED talks are run independently and are known as TEDx events.
