This April Port Phillip went active! It was kick-started with an information sessions showcasing the recently installed outdoor gym equipment at Peanut Farm Reserve.

As part of Premier’s Active April, the City of Port Phillip organised more than 85 free events for people of all fitness levels.

Premier’s Active April is a free initiative by the Victorian Government that encourages all Victorians to complete 30 minutes of physical activity a day during April.

The program’s goal is to promote healthy, active lifestyles and increase physical activity within the community.

Premier’s Active April has been running for seven years, but this was the first year Council created its own Active April calendar. All events were free of charge and run by local community groups.

Activities ranged from peaceful meditation and laughter yoga to high intensity interval training and Zumba fitness classes, so anyone could get involved.

The program will kick-start with a community information session showcasing the newly installed exercise equipment at Peanut Farm Reserve.

“The Peanut Farm Reserve exercise equipment paid for and installed by Council includes seven workout stations which uses a counter-weight system to limit resistance, meaning it’s suitable for all ages and fitness levels,” Mayor Amanda Stevens said.

One of Active April’s main priorities is to ensure there are activities accessible to the entire community.

Blind Sports Victoria hosted a guided beach walk for people with blindness or low-vision on April 10 from St Kilda Pier to Elwood Beach.

“The guided walks are another example of this program’s accessibility for all of our residents. We want to make sure people young and old, of different skill levels, and of varying physical capabilities can enjoy an active and healthy lifestyle,” Cr Stevens said.

If you missed it that’s not a reason to stay idle. Let’s get active!
