On Friday 25th March over one hundred people gathered at the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron in St Kilda to witness the marriage of Riona Hanley to Liam Magowan. It was a beautiful autumn afternoon with a shimmering Port Phillip Bay as the backdrop to an intimate rooftop ceremony. Riona walked down the aisle with her father to Emers Dream by Colm Mac Con Iomaire with a violin instrumental performed live by the Twoks with Xani Kolac on electric violin and vocals and Mark Leahy on drums.

More than 30 guests flew in from Ireland including the Bride’s family and many friends from her home county of Menlo and time at University in Dublin, Ireland. Others traveled from different parts of Australia and the UK and many of the Grooms family and friends were Melbourne locals.

Celebrant Catherine Ann Bearsley performed a civil ceremony with readings from friends Rhona, Brooke, Bernie, Gil and Noelle. The Grooms grandmother Elizabeth Magowan performed a moving blessing as waters from Menlo Pier Galway and Port Phillip Bay were blended together.

After the ceremony guests enjoyed a vintage nautical theme with a reception in the Yacht Squadron Ballroom decorated by Gabrielle Henry. Memorable and moving speeches were made by the Best Man Loughlin Magowan, the Father of the Groom John Magowan, the Father of the Bride Gerry Hanley, the Groom Liam and the Bride Riona.

Bridesmaids were Ciara Fleming, Sarah Hanley, Sinead Flannery, Caragh Kelly. Groomsmen Loughlin Magowan, Aaron Webb, Joel Cohen and Jason Turner. Flower girls Eve Magowan and Rosie Kaplon. Page boys Ewan Magowan, Maksymilian Kaplon, Henryk Kaplon. In attendance was the mother of the bride Aileen Hanley and the mother of the groom Dianne Magowan, as well as other family members.

It was a wonderful occasion enjoyed by all, to say nothing of the rings.
