St Kilda Primary School Fete

More than 3000 thousand visitors are expected to converge on St Kilda Primary School for the ‘Fete that stops a nation’ on Sunday October 25, 2015 10am – 4pm.

Visitors will:

  • Tune into food by St Kilda phenomenon, Radio Mexico
  • Have the opportunity to tuck into an award winning cake, judged by Masterchef’s Alice Zaslavsky and The Age (and St Kilda Primary School’s own) restaurant critic, Dani Valent.
  • Pick up a bargain at the more than 25 stalls dotted throughout the grounds
  • Be entertained by the thrilling rides and side show activities along with a wide range of live acts on the central stage.

And once again, St Kilda Primary School has set the ambitious target of making this Fete like no other, a zero waste event.

Fete sustainability leader, Laura Keays, said the task would be made even easier this year, thanks to the installation of a ‘reverse’ vending machine.

“Zero waste has become a hallmark of the St Kilda Primary School Fete and is a tangible demonstration of the commitment by our school to operating sustainably.

“By using unbleached paper products, washable or reusable cups and crockery and by sorting waste at its source, we cut waste enormously last time around and we’re hoping to raise the bar further at this year’s Fete.

“The reverse vending machine incentivises recycling by dispersing tickets that can be used like cash at the Fete, every time users insert a plastic bottle or can for recycling.”

School Principal, Sue Higgins said she hoped that this year’s Fete – the major fundraiser for St Kilda Primary School – would set new attendance and fundraising records.

“St Kilda Primary School is at the heart of the St Kilda community and the support of local businesses, including Radio Mexico, is testament to the important role our school plays in the life of St Kilda.

“We encourage everyone to come on down and pick up a bargain, grab something to eat and support our fantastic school.”
