St Kilda Legal Service will also be celebrating one of their longest
serving volunteers – Dr Renata Alexander. Renata is among the longest
serving community legal service volunteers in Victoria. Renata commenced
with the St Kilda Legal Service in March 1976 as a local resident and
fourth year university student. Some of Renata’s achievements include:

* PILCH (now Justice Connect) Community Legal Centre Award in 2000;

* Centenary Medal from the Prime Minister in 2001 for her work in
voluntary legal services;

* Awarded Ph.D. in Law from Monash University in March 2001.

* Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding volunteer Contribution,
Federation of Community Legal Centres (Vic) and Law Foundation of
Victoria (June 2003); and

* Founding member of the Women’s Legal Service Victoria (Est 1981).

Renata is a current St Kilda Legal Service Board Member and senior
lecturer at Monash University. She has mentored countless St Kilda Legal
Service volunteers and provided valuable advice to thousands of
vulnerable people over the last 40 years. We are proud to celebrate her
contribution not only to St Kilda Legal Service, but to the law in
general.

“St Kilda Legal Service was created in 1973 to provide access to justice
for the vulnerable disadvantaged groups in our area. This has only been
possible with the commitment of our staff and volunteers, including Dr
Renata Alexander who has committed her life to justice and fairness for
all people.” – Principal Solicitor Philip Cottier

“Our legal service is a vital part of the St Kilda and wider community
.It is a great pleasure to contribute and see how our advice and
information empowers and educates clients and helps resolve or at least
ameliorate issues for those most disadvantaged in our community. Its
longevity is due to the commitment and hard work of our staff,
volunteers and Board members.” – Dr Renata Alexander

“We are looking forward to the St Kilda Legal Service 2016 AGM, to
showcase our achievements during the past year, to thank staff and
volunteers for all their work and to set our sights on another
successful year in 2017.” – Chairperson Adam Meyer
