St Kilda Festival’s 2016 New Music Stage

St Kilda Festival’s 2016 New Music Stage line-up has been announced; a landmark event and

exciting platform for Australia’s hottest new music aims to support emerging artists and the growth

of the Australian music industry.

This initiative offers the nation’s best emerging talent the opportunity to play at Australia’s largest

music festival on Sunday 14 February, with an overall crowd attendance of more than 400,000

expected on the day.

The City of Port Phillip proudly produces the renowned festival each year, with a focus on

cultivating and promoting emerging musical talent nationally. Cr Mayor Bernadene Voss is thrilled

to be able to provide such a significant platform for artist discovery.

“The City of Port Phillip is proud to provide a national spotlight for these talented and deserving

artists each year.”

Ten unsigned acts have been chosen to play on the New Music Stage, with the crowd favourite to

win $5,000 and a spot on the St Kilda Festival Main Stage in 2017. Voting opens on Festival

Sunday and closes Friday 19 February, and occurs through the festival website and smartphone

Festival Producer, Adele Denison says “The New Music Stage has hosted some of Australia’s

hottest talent in the early stages of their careers such as Client Liaison, Stonefield and The

Vaudeville Smash. It is definitely one of the most popular stages on the day.”

Falling on Valentine’s Day for 2016, Sunday 14 February will see St Kilda’s iconic streets

transformed into Australia’s largest music festival, a fusion of free live music, dance, carnival rides,

sports, market stalls, activities, extended business trading and entertainment for all ages.
