Do you remember what happened in 1997?

The Community Alliance of Port Phillip is formed by local residents in response to the then kennett government restructuring of council municipalities and the formation of Port Phillip council. It also campaigns against the Melbourne grand prix with the ‘Save Albert Park ‘ group.

The Hineni Youth Movement is established at the St Kilda Shule.

St Kilda Finish on top of the AFL ladder and Play in the AFL grand final for the first time since 1971. Despite leading by 13 points at Half Time Adelaide would go on to win the grand final by 31 points with Darren Jarman kicking 6 goals and the unlikely hero of Shane Ellen kicking 5 Goals. Andrew Mcleod won the Norm Smith Medal. St Kilda Legend Robert Harvey the previous week won the Bronwlow Medal.

Zoe Hogg is president of Earthcare St Kilda for a 3rd year. The third stage of the breakwater reconstruction began. Also earthcare created the ‘wild places’ exhibition shown at the Linden Gallery, a photographic competition display of the wildlife of port phillip and earthcare’s ‘what environment’ display.
