Signature Dish

Signature Dish is a section that explores the district’s best dishes. We champion those culinary heavy hitters and uncover hidden gems by asking local restaurants to serve up their most popular dish.

This month – Clucked

Fried Chicken isn’t something synonymous with healthy eating. But rebranding a seemingly steadfast image is commonplace nowadays, you just have to look at the local doughnut scene or American presidency to understand how something so gluttonously sickly can suddenly come into favour.

Although Clucked’s logo seems to resemble Trump’s hairstyle, their campaign to healthify fried chicken doesn’t reek of the same bombastic jive. Much more authentic, much more realistic, with a mandate that simply states ‘Free range chicken, cooked in rice bran oil’.

Manager Claire elaborates, “As well as the healthy chicken options, we have quinoa/pumpkin salads and mayo free coleslaw with organic cider vinegar”.

The chicken is boneless and succulent, available in different cuts and degrees of spiciness. You definitely get the vibe that this is a chicken shop more foodie than drunkie; more than just a late night pitstop to feast, projectile vomit then fall asleep in. In fact, it’s so good you could eat there stone sober.
