Is St Kilda local Kirsty Owen Australia’s next Rockstar Florist?

Communities get behind their local florist in national flower shootout

Australia’s florists are again set to do battle as the annual wedding flower competition gets underway during the month of October.

This is the sixth time Tesselaar’s Top Gun competition has been conducted and once again the public gets the final vote in support of their favourite floral artists.

More than 1000 entries are expected from among the nation’s 3000 florists.  The competition is seen as a guide to the hottest trends in wedding flowers now that the Spring wedding season is in full swing.

The competition has three categories – flowers to wear (floral crowns worn by brides); flowers to carry (the bride’s bouquet); and flowers to decorate (venue/reception flowers and installations).

A cloak of many colours, floral crowns, even a black swan

Expect the unexpected is the mantra with florists already producing outstanding floral art including variations on floral headwear for brides, a magnificent multi-coloured floral cloak and an award-winning black swan, just some of the entries.  The images for 2015 will soon begin to appear online at:

The competition runs through the month of October, after which the top 10 entries in each category will be chosen by Tesselaar’s experienced independent judging panel.  These entries will then go to a public vote on Facebook.  The competition has received wide public support over the past four years with customers in cities, towns and suburbs across Australia rallying behind their local florist. It has attracted around 500,000 online views each time.

Recently Tesselaar Flowers released a free ebook Fleuresse that features the best of the best ideas, themes, colour schemes and images from previous Top Gun competitions. It is now available as a free download from:
