Pacific Rim Uprising Review

10 Years have passed since the war with the Kaiju had ended. Now the Kaiju’s have returned, but they have evolved. It’s up to the next generation of Jaeger pilots to face off against these massive beasts or watch their world fall.

I was very impressed with the new Kaiju designs, the size ratio of these beasts was perfect and the new giant Kaiju was epic. The new young cast for this movie did quite well. I was very pleased to watch the progress and development of Jake Pentecost (John Boyega), the son of former leader Stacker Pentecost. Jake was a slacker with no drive or ambition who rose to become a ranking officer, helping the new recruits, with a bit of a sense of humour. Another newbie was Amara Namani (Cailee Spaeny), a young woman who suffered great loss as a child because of the Kaiju. Despite that, she became a great engineer, and not only built her own Jaeger, but became a pilot. Both of these characters are smart and tough, which was interesting to watch. The action scenes were really exciting with great destruction, and in this kind of movie that is what you want. It was good to see some of the returning characters from the first movie make an impact in the sequel, Nate Lambert (Scott Eastwood), Dr. Hermann (Burn Gorman), Dr. Newton (Charlie Day) and Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi). This movie was better than the first one, which is why I gave it 4/5 Stars.

With more intense battles, and new Kaiju monsters, if you enjoyed the first Pacific Rim, then you sure will enjoy the Uprising more.
