Movie Review: Chronicle (Thank God for Popcorn)

Chronicle is about three high school friends who, while attending a rave party, discover a strange hole in the ground and after exploring it gain telekinetic abilities.

I had really high expectations from what I had seen of previews of this movie and was disappointed when it didn’t live up to the hype. The film had an alright storyline but at times didn’t go into enough detail; such as where the hole came from, why or how they actually got their powers, and why whenever they used their newfound powers they got nosebleeds. Another thing that made this movie hard to keep up with was that it was filmed from the view of a handy cam and at times was very scattered (it was hard to tell what was going on half the time). But the final big letdown was the run time… at a touch over 80 minutes they had more than enough time to fill in some of the important details that they had failed to explain, but didn’t deliver.

All in all, the only thing that I gained from seeing this movie was a lot of unanswered questions, a belly full of popcorn, and an empty wallet. I wouldn’t recommend it to any one with more than a handful of brain cells.

I give this movie 1 Choctop out of 5
