St Kilda is set to host a major International sporting event this coming December, with the support of Melbourne, City of Port Phillip and St Kilda Tourism & Events.

ISAF Sailing World Cup is the elite end of the game of yachting with Olympic aspirants visiting our shores to sail next to our own local up and coming champions. The action will be right across the City and the event home is at Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron and our iconic St Kilda Sea Baths – right on St Kilda Beach.

If you see tanned International sailors between December 7th and 13th, please extend them some of our famous local hospitality.

The stats are impressive…

  • 520 corporate guests
  • 3,000 leading sailors
  • Over 5,000 visitors & spectators
  • 48 nations represented

It promises to bring an amazing visual display and festivities to St Kilda and surrounds with a host of lifestyle and marine driven entertainment, with the backdrop of Olympic level sailing, the Celebrity Couta Boat challenge and much more.

The event is a world-class fixture in Victoria’s summer of sailing. Showcasing the best of the best, the ISAF Sailing World Cup – Melbourne is the premier annual event for Olympic class sailing in the Southern Hemisphere. It’s also an event where Olympic aspirants will set out to earn valuable qualifying points on the next step in their quest to compete for their country at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

For those of us who aren’t seasoned sailors, the ISAF World Cup event includes a series of races taking place over the course of the week for each of the participating classes. All boats of the same class are known as a ‘fleet’ and compete against each other on the same course at the same time.

This is a huge opportunity for St Kilda. Aside from the significant economic impact to local traders, the event presents a bigger opportunity – to showcase St Kilda as an events hub, and attract other national and international events to the area. Channel Seven is confirmed as the broadcast partner locally and footage of our city will be telecast all over the world.

St Kilda Tourism & Events are working closely with the ISAF event team to create the ISAF Event Pass that allows competitors and their friends and family to experience St Kilda’s cafes, restaurants and attractions. The ISAF eventpass is the first of a series of St Kilda Event Passes that are being be developed for St Kilda Tourism members and will be used at the St Kilda Visitor Info Kombi, in special promotions, at local events and other Victorian events to drive visitation and economic impact to our local businesses.

If you’re interested in being part of this seasons exciting activity, please contact St Kilda Tourism & Events for information on becoming a member or volunteer.
