Max Riebl at Christ Church – the concert you did not expect at the St Kilda Festival!

As most of you would probably know, Christ Church might close in a few years if we don’t raise about $4.5 million to restore the building. The church is one of the oldest public buildings on this side of the Yarra and we cannot lose it! It might be a church but a lot more can happen in this building, not just Sunday masses, weddings and funerals. It has got a great acoustic and concerts sound just amazing.

And how lucky are we to have Max Riebl performing for us!

I could write a long essay about Max Riebl and his huge talents as a singer, but I’ll not. I’ll just invite you to come to St Kilda’s Christ Church on Acland Street at 6pm on St Kilda Festival – Sunday 11 February.

Max is a countertenor. There are only about a dozen in the world. That shows you how rare seeing Max at our local church is. He is the 2017 Herald-Sun ARIA winner.

I met Max through friends several years ago and I could not believe the angelic voice coming from a strong man like him! Check him out on his website

After several years singing in Europe, he has come back to Melbourne and he is looking for a new direction as he is not that keen just to do classical music and classical songs. You will be surprised to hear in the same hour Bach, Judy Garland, ACDC, Handel, The Smiths, Queen and more. Max is for an hour “The Great Pretender.”

Max will be accompanied by talented classical guitarist Ziggy Johnston and at the organ, one of the best organ players in Victoria, Hugh Fullarton.

A one off concert not to miss. I know Max has performed in many churches in his career all over the world but he is very excited to come to Christ Church as its acoustic is amazing and he has never really sung with an organ… The concert is free but the Friends of Christ Church would welcome a donation at the end of the concert. Or you can buy a raffle ticket!

“Music starts where the power of words end.” as Richard Wagner said… See you next Sunday, 6 pm!
