Marmara Turkish Restaurant

Marmara is an institution; established in 1980 it is now one of the oldest Turkish restaurants in Australia. Recently renovated last year, Marmara has lost its 1970’s look & feel which has been replaced with a contemporary fitout with strong Turkish design elements and colourful back-lighting.

It is not the cheapest Turkish food but it is certainly the freshest, tastiest, best quality produce that we have experienced this side of town. In fact since discovering it early last year it has quickly become a personal favourite – and we often find ourselves heading down after work to grab a takeaway Kofta Kebab ($10) or Kasarli Pide (Margharita Pide) ($10).

Everything we have eaten here has been delicious, fresh and well flavoured. Unlike other kebab places – the Doner Kebab meat always tastes extremely fresh and is well seasoned. My favourite meal is the Karisik Izgara (Mixed Grill) ($19) which comes with a small salad and rice which is cooked in a tasty broth adding extra flavour.

Whether you are eating in or taking away, the staff are always friendly and courteous. An additional bonus if you are feeling extra lazy – for $5 Marmara will home deliver to St Kilda : ) – be prepared to wait for up to an hour however.
