A man was seriously injured after being assaulted in Albert Park Wednesday June 12 in Albert Park.

The man in his 30s told police he was walking along Pickles Street around 2.45am when two men approached him from behind.

The victim was then struck on the head with was he claims was a knife.

The offenders fled the scene on foot after stealing the man’s phone and wallet.

The victim who’s injuries were not life threatening was taken to the Alfred hospital for treatment.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crime with the two offenders both described as Caucasian and one of them believed to have been wearing a black jacket.

The assault comes after the release of the most recent crime statistics by Victoria police that showed robbery and assaults were each up 5% in the Southern Metro region which Port Phillip lies in.
