Loose Change Lunch – Ziggy’s Eatery

Step into this hip and happening homie-style eatery with skateboards plastered on the bare brick walls down the back, and rap tunes the likes of ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ playing in the background; then mix in some hearty meat-packed tucker (or vegetarian options available, should you prefer) and you’ll understand why Ziggy’s is continually so popular (and why there are always so many guys lining up for their protein and iron fix). This place, or should I say, this institution, is da bomb! (Or ‘darn good’, as others might say). And yes, you can get an affordable lunch (or dinner) for under $12 here too. Sit in, or takeaway, and not long ago starting up home delivery, Ziggy’s has you covered.

Now realising Ziggy’s is known for their many reputable items listed on their menu, with their popular beef Shawarma $11.90 being one of my favourite pics; it was their burgers I was told, I had to try. And well, was I in for a treat. Ordering their recommended ‘Cheese 120g’ Beef Burger $10.90 served on a brioche bun, alongside house made smoked cheese sauce, bacon, tomato and Spanish onion, and I was in heaven. This was one exceptionally tasty and indulgently decadent burger. Oh, and a serving of their out of this world crispy-divine onion rings, don’t go astray either, just saying.

So what makes the burgers at Ziggy’s, with this ‘Cheese 120g’ burger in particular, so unique? Well besides the juicy, lightly pink and delectably chewy, pepper seasoned beef patty (which I probably could have gone two of, due to their relatively smallish size) and the two generous middle rashers of charcoaled crispy and smoky flavoured bacon (with the light touch of freshness offered from the tomato and red onion); it was the ‘home made smoked cheese sauce’ that with the buttery soft and daintily sweet seeded brioche bun that it was served on, made this burger a standout for me.

As one of the owners’ Ziggy Assaf quite rightly put it, “the yellow sauce (i.e. cheese sauce) is nuts”; and reminding me between the taste of creamy mac-cheese and the moreish flavour of Twisties, (which brought me back to fond memories of my childhood), I couldn’t agree more. The Ziggy’s boys definitely have something going on here. Their secret recipe cheese sauce, simply maintains such a creamy, bitey and smoky edge, that it just goes so well to compliment all the other ingredients.

So if it’s a mean, reasonably priced, and quick lunchtime feed that you’re after; then I recommend you stop by Ziggy’s Eatery, you’ll be walking out with a satisfied tummy and a cheesy grin if you do.
