Live N Local to wrap up with three amazing (and free) live music events

Melbourne’s free winter music festival Live N Local will wrap up this weekend with three exciting events in South Melbourne.

And all of them are free.

First up, the organisers have planned a full day of artist development workshops. The Right Track is a free musician development program dedicated to exploring the ingredients necessary to support, nourish, and inspire songwriters, self-managed artists, and musicians.

The artist development program will be followed by a closing night concert featuring an eclectic mix of entertainment heavy-weights including Jess Ribiero, Simon Burke, Zimbabwean born local musician Thando, soul musician Joshua Tavares, electric violinist Xani Kolac, and indigenous singer-songwriter Benny Walker.

Led by music director Xani Kolac, the specially commissioned nine-piece band will create stunning new versions of Australian compositions traversing genres from soul to country to rock.

Several of the artists have been featured on Triple J Unearthed.

Ms Kolac’s collaboration was highly acclaimed during the Women’s International Jazz Festival two years ago.

Each vocalist will perform original compositions, and/or songs written by local artists that have inspired them.

The songs revolve around the themes of regret, missed opportunities, hope, survival and fighting back.

The night will end with an official after party at Melbourne Moonshine Distillery in an unassuming South Melbourne warehouse location.

You can sip some white gold from the bespoke copper stills and bid the night farewell with some of the best local garage, rock and punk in Port Phillip.
