Husband and wife team, Jay and Jacqueline Kalogerakis, have introduced a unique new dining concept to St Kilda with the fabulous new Lady Grange Restaurant and Bar.

The extraordinary lunch and dinner menu features Modern Australian Cuisine with a fresh seafood influence, and there is an amazing breakfast selection with a difference on offer, heavily featuring local, organic, seasonal produce and healthy paleo options. Scrumptious gourmet wood fired pizzas are also available as take away.

“Why did you choose the name Lady Grange Restaurant,” I asked restaurateur Jay, not realising the fascinating historical background that existed.

Jay divulged some intriguing facts that had led to the decision:

Lady Rachel Chiesley Grange, a well-known socialite, died a prisoner on the Scottish island of St Kilda in 1745. She was a wife who liked to party and drink, a wild beauty, before being kidnapped and imprisoned for 17 years by her judgemental husband.

The schooner that was finally sent on an unsuccessful rescue attempt in 1741 was named “The Lady of St Kilda” after her plight. Then, in 1850, it set sail for Australia. Captained by Sir Thomas Acland, it eventually docked on the shores of what is now St Kilda Beach. The captain bought the first block of Crown land in the area only a hundred or so metres from where Lady Grange sits today, and named the town after his precious ship.

The Lady’s fate has inspired artists for generations. She has been the muse for sonnets, plays and poems. She has been the inspiration for portraits, novels, and songs, and now, centuries later, for Fitzroy Street.

Lady Grange is now living up to the definitive hospitality standards that Sir Thomas had planned for St Kilda. With stunning new decor and modern design, it’s recent refurbishment and wonderful seascape views make it the new wild beauty of St Kilda.

Owner and Chef Jay Kalogerakis brings 15 years of experience to the table with Lady Grange, and wife Jacqueline is a renown gun barista with amazing coffee skills, fresh from running the iconic Huckleberry Finn in Hawthorn. The extended management team includes Dan Woollard as General Manager, ex head chef Il Solito Posto and Petty Officer, and until recently the Bar Manager at Club 23, Shane Warne’s bar in Crown.

Complimented by international Chefs who are now St Kilda locals, Muka Silver (Las Chicas, Sky City N.Z) and Phil Dernehl (Left bank, Orange), this is a team to watch out for.

All this spectacular food is complimented by amazing Allpress coffee and Larson & Thompson imported Tea, and it doesn’t stop there. With a comprehensive selection of Australian boutique wines, award winning custom cocktails and traditional favourites, the drinks are sure to impress. A state of the art downstairs bar holds an enormous and impressive selection of spirits and pours an array of imported and local beer and ciders.

Then there’s the spectacular, fully renovated “Bayview” Functions and Events Room upstairs, holding up to 160 people. With scintillating views of St Kilda Bay, from Luna Park all the way to Station Pier, and an amazing cityscape, this is Melbourne’s Premier Function Space. From sit down seminars to stand up cocktail parties, Lady Grange can cater for any event, and won’t leave you in need of rescue!
