Il Piccolo Posto

Located off Fitzroy St, in the hustle and bustle of the historic St Kilda tram stop #132, Giancarlo’s café; Il Piccolo Posto, translated to ‘the little place’, is now one year old. Created to capture a social, community orientated place with a rustic, low key and comfortable vibe. The wooden community table and large smooth top espresso bar is where you’ll always find someone to chat to.

Frequented by loyal locals and inquisitive travellers who come to him for the reputation he has built of exceptional coffee. Serving Rosso Speciality coffee – roasted locally in Melbourne and sourced from Rainforest Alliance and Fairtrade Organic farming communities. Try either the smooth blend, perfect for a milk blended coffee, or a long black with the selected rotating single origin. In true Italian Espresso Bar style, you can keep with tradition, and have your espresso standing up at the takeaway window, while waiting for the tram to collect you.

Giancarlo’s fiancé, Michelle, has helped to create the healthy menu, with favourites like the Chia Pudding; raw cacao and creamed cashew chia pudding served with gluten free muesli and fresh fruit ($13), or Haloumi Bruschetta; toasted rye sourdough with ‘cafe-made’ basil pesto, rocket and grilled haloumi ($10). On Saturday’s come in and try a rotating special, like the new Italian Smash – a twist on the classic avocado smash.

On the espresso bar you’ll find a selection of sweet treats including homemade flourless cake and date and pecan scones… not to mention the sort-after almond croissants. Also on the menu is delicious Prana Chai, ‘cafe made’ Almond Milk, refreshing Remedy Kombucha and First Press cold drip coffee.

Take-away or having in, there is something for everyone, and all are made to feel welcome, at Giancarlo’s espresso bar… Il Piccolo Posto.
