3.5 stars… thank goodness! There are a lot of stalls to cover and no other coffee outpost for miles.

Delightfully fruity and caramelly and a solid taste all the way to the bottom.

4  stars -The team is like a Brunswick party who crept over the border to St Kilda – a very inner north hipster vibe

Normally its important that coffee is experienced in a glass, but today I am at Hank Marvin’s enjoying a quieter day than the usual crowds, because rain has been bucketing down all morning. Thank God for Melbourne’s bipolar weather giving me a window of opportunity to review coffee without fighting a crowd of market goers.

Hank Marvin’s is a food truck market with stalls to stock up on vegies and sweet temptations, balanced with a healthy side order of Kombucha. You also have the option to ignore the stalls and enjoy a quiet cider or coffee in the park without feeling socially unacceptable. For me on most days it’s a coffee kind of day.

The single coffee stall available at the market is bringing the Brunswick hipster vibe to St Kilda. The café Little.Big.Sugar.Salt is basically a Northern side tent embassy for the market. An exceptionally fine addition to the food trucks, cider cellars, kids and queues.

Normally they are so busy my coffee is lined up behind ten others but on this rainy day I enjoyed not only a quick coffee but a chance to chat with the not so chatty team of Little.Big.Sugar.Salt . They were however happy to tell me about their coffee brand using another Brunswick local “Wide Open Road Coffee Roasters;  a locally roasted blend of fruity flavours and artisan intensity.

A take away coffee cup doesn’t allow the slow drop of flavour in quite the same way of glass so the experience was a mixed one.. but the coffee was a caramelly surprise.. remarkably flavour-packed with a pleasant kick.

The queues for this coffee aren’t just a matter of being the last outpost for a kilometre but the flavour and quality that you can experience in a take away cup makes the trip to Hank Marvin for a coffee and cake something else again. After all how many places can you sip a latte on a lawn with a donut or some other Food truck treat and let your dogs and children run around?

It’s good coffee well made and flavoured with the right sensations to brighten even the cloudiest grey morning.
