Gotham is a brand new television series that tells the back stories of the characters we have come to know and love in the Batman series. Gotham follows an honest Gotham City Police Detective, James Gordon, as he and Harvey Bullock try to stop crime while also trying to figure out who killed Bruce Wayne’s parents.

In the series we’ll come across characters such as: Selina Klye (aka Catwoman), Oswald Cobblepot (aka The Penguin), and more, many appearing in the first season. The first and second episodes of Gotham premiered on Australian television on Sunday October 12th; I found them enjoyable and look forward to seeing the rest of the series.

You could say that Gotham is kind of like a lead up to the Batman series itself, providing us with the back story of how James Gordon became police chief while introducing us to a number of villain’s along the way – some you might know and some you might not.

I think it’s a safe bet that Gotham will get a second season, I know that I would sit down and watch a second, third and even fourth season of it. I love how they show the back stories of all our favourite characters without doing flashbacks of when they were younger or having a whole three episodes dedicated to just one character’s back story, it works well for cartoon series’ but for a TV show like Gotham it wouldn’t fit in.

You can catch Gotham on Sunday nights at 8:30pm on Channel 9.
