The Paris End of Fitzroy Street embraces another special venue, and it’s all about coffee at GB Espresso!

Further to the sale of her very successful Wild Organic Café in Elwood, Andrea Brook has embarked upon another exciting dining challenge, this time focusing on producing the quintessential cup of coffee and accompanying it with the appropriate light, scrumptious food for a healthy and quick breakfast and lunch for people on the move or those that just wish to perch over a great coffee followed by another, in a conducive and comfortable environment.

Andrea has completely refurbished the St Kilda Grocery Bar in Fitzroy Street and re-opened it as GB Espresso. The finished product is a good reflection of the well orchestrated collaboration of her as owner, her branding team Caramel Creative and renowned interior designer Andrew Mitchell of Mr Mitchell.

The minimal interior palette focuses on mood and layers of interesting textures. Warmth and character were introduced to the space with the use of imperfect and aged finishes, in particular the Brooklyn Tins wallpaper by Dutch designer Piet Boon. This striking digitally printed paper references the pressed metal ceilings typical of the Victorian architecture of

St Kilda, and cleverly envelops the length of the café on both wall and ceiling.

A yellow neon sign placed on a black wall confidently announces the new café to Fitzroy Street passing traffic. The black and yellow identity of the brand is carried subtly throughout the interior of the venue.

This stunning result is a sophisticated yet relaxed Espresso Bar, European in essence with references to the surrounding St Kilda streetscape, uniting the high quality yet simple menu with absolutely superb coffee provided by  the  renowned Melbourne boutique coffee company, 5 Senses.

Angela carefully chose the Harvest Blend of Five Senses, as her signature coffee. Five Senses has its roastery in Cheltenham and its barista training school (Australian Barista Academy) nearby in South Melbourne. All her barista staff are trained at the Five Senses training facility to ensure they are 2nd to none and consistent in coffee preparation expertise.

While the menu is pared back, offerings include variations of eggs, house cured salmon, daily salads, house made cakes and sweets, and beautiful quality coffee from the brand

spanking new state of the art , industry leader, the mammoth Synesso Hydra machine that commands the large marble slab at the front of the shop, and manufactures an extraordinary cup of coffee every time!

GB Espresso is fully licensed and there is a small but comprehensive wine list, mainly imported Italian, and essential Italian beverages such as Averna and Campari on offer. A feature is the refreshing, freshly squeezed fruit juices processed on the spot.

Andrea has tried to create a simple but creative and interesting espresso bar menu, using only the best quality ingredients. The menu includes Paninis filled with San Danielle prosciutto, Andrews Choice ham of the bone. As well as wonderful whole Kasher Bacon slow baked with orange juice and cloves, then served thickly sliced.

The finished product is a good reflection of the well-orchestrated collaboration and vast culinary experience of Andrea Brook, the  branding team and interior designers.

Angela Brook continues to expand her specialised coffee concept and is currently negotiating a site in Prahran.
