The 2016 program is Gasworks Backyard Cinema’s most varied and vibrant yet, with a mixture of narrative features both new and old that span comedy, drama and dance as well as a number of timely and engaging documentary feature films.

Some highlights of the 2016 program include John Waters’ cult classics Hairspray and Cry Baby (starring a young Johnny Depp)presented by Melbourne Queer Film Festival (MQFF) as part of Midsumma and the brand new Bangarra Dance film adaptation, Spear from choreographer turned director Stephen Page.

The opening night film is the award-winning Canadian documentary, All The Time In The World presented by Port Phillip EcoCentre.

Gasworks Backyard Cinema is an open air cinema nestled in the parklands at Gasworks Arts Park.

Doors open 7pm and films start at sunset (around 8.45pm). Plenty of time for a nice picnic dinner before the films! Bring your own picnic or taste the delicious selection of dinner and dessert options from mobile food vendors at each screening.

Gasworks Backyard Cinema 2016 runs every Friday night from 15th January until 18th March.
