The Mayor of City of Port Phillip Council, Cr. Rachel Powning, together with Council and State Government representatives, in a sod-turning event to celebrate the start of construction of the Marina Reserve Masterplan.

The Council hopes that the redevelopment of the marina will become an important recreational area for St Kilda residents and for other Melbournians. It will include a new play and picnic area, more public toilets and areas from which to enjoy the views of the bay and the city skyline.

It will cater for a wide range of leisure activities for people of all ages, including cyclists, joggers, walkers and, for the first time, skaters, who will be able to make use of a new skating area

“We are confident,” says Cr. Powning, “that the new works will strike the balance between passive and active recreation and build on the great success of the St Kilda Foreshore promenade project.”
