Mayor Cr Amanda Stevens says the City of Port Phillip remains committed to working in partnership

with the state government in planning for Fishermans Bend, following last month’s proposal by the City of Melbourne to take planning control of the area.

“We agree that planning should be done in conjunction with local communities of interest however, we also acknowledge the key role that the state government will play in delivering a well planned

community in Fishermans Bend,” she said.

“The City of Port Phillip recognises that the planning of Fishermans Bend is about constructing

communities and not just buildings and we are working collaboratively with Places Victoria on the

strategic planning of public transport, schools, roads, parks and utilities.”

The Mayor said Council is committed to continue working with state government, including Places

Victoria to deliver a detailed planning framework for Fishermans Bend.

“We are keen to work with the state government to realise a shared vision of a diverse and liveable

community, where significant development and residential density can be appropriately serviced. This way, we can provide economic opportunities for the state and a well-planned inner urban community in Fishermans Bend,” she said.
