Bayside’s newest coworking space, Blank Canvas Coworking, is opposite Luna Park in the heart of St Kilda
and was formally launched mid September.

“We started Blank Canvas Coworking as a platform from which small enterprise can thrive, connect and grow
into an economic engine for growth – not just here in St Kilda but more broadly for Melbourne,” said Doug
Hartmann, director of Blank Canvas Coworking.

Doug has created an environmentally sustainable, pleasing work place for freelancers, small business
owners, remote workers, corporate refugees and independent professionals to work from – and be effective
in what they do.

“We are a professional coworking space, with many our members are well-established in their businesses”
Doug continues. “My aim as director is to create ways to make it easy for members to forge connections with
each other.”

“Sometimes you need to concentrate, connect with others or collaborate. But sometimes it is great to have
access to others who can help you keep on track through the challenges of business, sharing ideas and
experience. Others are there with a friendly high 5 for when you hit your mark!”

The launch was a chance to highlight the benefit to individual workers, community and enterprise that comes
from membership. Doug was joined by a long list of supporters, founding members and business/social
enterprise partners for a successful evening of networking, member showcasing.

Port Philip Deputy Mayor Cr Serge Thomann has been a long-time advocate for small businesses in Port
Philip and St Kilda and joined the super successful launch event. During his speech Cr Thomann noted that
“It is small enterprises that are truely the engine for economic development and growth in not only St Kilda,
but Melbourne” and that so many go on to become the thriving heart of the business world.

“We are so fortunate to be growing this community” said Doug. “The future of Blank Canvas Coworking is to
not only provide a professional and productive environment for coworkers, and small to medium enterprise.
We are also making big plans for so much more to grow out of this space.”

“We have a range of professional development and networking nights coming up. We are hosting
entertaining, inspiring and informative community focused events over the next few months. One is a Ted-X
style event on November 8 with 5 professional speakers and there will be more details on our website soon.
Frankly, it is a lot of fun and really exciting to be doing.”

Blank Canvas Coworking is a light-filled space that provides an affordable alternative to working from home,
in cafe’s or dreary serviced offices that do not serve to inspire or empower and often hinder success. And we
know that St Kilda is an ideal location to set up and grow businesses from, with the best of beach,
exceptional restaurants, cafe life, art, entertainment and a growing entrepreneurial spirit.

“There are also some very real needs for individuals including the social aspect of work life that so many
desperately miss when going solo or developing a start up”, Doug continues. “Coworking is a professional
environment that brings business growth and social together.”
