Fast becoming one of the best weekend breakfast spots on the Fitzroy Street strip – Lady Grange is booming. With a seasonally fresh, local produce menu (which speaks volumes), bay views surely to impress, and the most amicable and attentive wait staff; it’s easy to comprehend why. The fundamentals of great food and hospitality are right here.

Sitting by a window table, watching passersby, I ordered the Paleo Pumpkin Loaf with smashed avocado, tomato salsa and poached egg ($17); while my eating partner ordered the Kale and Mushroom Benedict, with dill hollandaise ($15). Both dishes, served up a treat.

My pumpkin loaf was by far, one of the nicest, and most decadent, I have tasted in a long while. Freshly baked just right, and using only Paleo ingredients (not containing wheat, yeast or dairy); this loaf was real-pumpkin-hearty, and succulently moist. Furthermore, buttery and melt-in-your mouth sublime, it had an outer casing that was golden, oven-crisp and pumpkin-seed crunchy. And if this wasn’t enough, it was topped with lashings of fresh, ripe and tasty chunks of avocado, tomato salsa, and two large protein hits of free-range eggs, garnished with dainty sprigs, of edible snow pea tendrils. A treat for the eyes, as well as the stomach!

My eating partner’s meal of Mushroom and Asparagus Benedict, with dill hollandaise (which I got to try), was also a decadent taste-inspired infusion. Using large portabella mushrooms that tasted like real mushrooms should; sweet and meaty, alongside, soft in taste and texture, and slightly cooked, fresh asparagus; it was only more proof of another dish put together creatively well. Finished off zestfully, with spoonfuls of creamy-yellow-rich hollandaise drizzled on top, my culinary expectations were exceeded once again.

Definitely a place to strike up a valued friendship, or on-going relationship with a beautiful ‘lady’ – undoubtedly, with all that’s on offer, you will have no choice but to come back for more. Not only because Lady Grange knows how to cook and provide exemplary service, but because intelligently and sophisticatedly, she knows how to work her best assets – in taste, presentation and style.

Breakfast is available any weekday from 11am and particularly on weekends from 8am.
