This local Kiwi flavoured cafe is a family favourite – we all love it; a daily haunt for my sister, a weekly coffee and sausage roll fix for my partner, and the cafe of choice for my mother when she is down that end of St Kilda town. This is the magic of Batch – no matter your age or pursuit; Batch is what all good local cafes should be – a home away from home, a welcome haven from the outside world, an easy stop-by in the middle of errands. It is not unusual to see young mothers, hip business locals and lunching buddies crowd around the tables inside.

The staff are always friendly – service is what they do naturally while they engage you in friendly chat; effortlessly presenting you with your coffee, snack or meal.

The dishes are always on the generous size, which emphasises that homely and welcoming feeling; the specials’ board always contains something interesting & new. This visit we selected the zucchini mint fritters served with smoked salmon & horseradish creme fraiche and an old fav being the home made sausage rolls served with relish and rocket salad – (which are consistently the best in town). The food is all tasty with a few select flourishes; but definitely nothing over-fancy.

All up – it is simply just real good tucker, served in a cheery relaxed environment. The coffee is great (Cafe Supreme’s South Blend wish is reported to be specifically created for Batch) . Please note however, this cafe is super popular; so be prepared to wait 1/2 an hour or more on weekends for a table.
