Active Nation Day on St Kilda Foreshore

Inspired by those promoting living a healthy lifestyle; I knew the founder of Lorna Jane active wear and Active Living Advocate, Lorna Jane Clarkson, was a woman onto something special, when she first launched her Active Nation Day campaign in 2012.

All about promoting “putting your health first and acknowledging the importance of moving your body, nourishing your body and believing in yourself”(Lorna Jane’s Move Nourish Believe philosophy); Active Nation Day brought fitness and inspiration to our local St Kilda foreshore for an energetic and invigorating half-day event.

Held nationally over Australia and showcasing its global debut this year, 2014; this first time Melbourne event, held at St Kilda Foreshore, St Kilda Beach (also hitting the United States, Dubai, South Africa, Finland and Asia), was one I knew I had to attend.

Getting up bright and early, on a balmy Sunday Melbourne morning, to take part in the Active Nation Day free group fitness class with a friend – run by Lorna Jane ambassadors and popular health and fitness personalities, Katie and Jane from Sweat and Oranges – it was an uplifting experience for more reasons than one.

Not only was it inspiring to see so many women collectively coming together “proud to prioritise their health and fitness” (like the Lorna Jane ambassadors and hosts on the day), actively participating in the free group fitness class and “specially choreographed routine”; but it was also uplifting to see so many women dedicated to joining a movement bigger than themselves – promoting ‘active living’ for an ‘authentic life’. As Lorna herself puts it: “in the 3 shorts years [Active Nation Day] has been running it has really shown how passionate Australian’s can be about their health and fitness when given a little push”.

Furthermore, women that were unable to attend the Melbourne Active Nation Day at St Kilda Foreshore had the opportunity of “downloading the free Lorna Jane app, exercising with a friend and tracking their movements” – a value added service Lorna has been able to provide the world over, to help everyone get active wherever they are.

For Lorna, Active Nation Day aims to remind people that “health and fitness [should be] a priority in life” and her “ultimate goal is that one day [Active Nation Day] will be a public holiday and people from around the world will dedicate the day to moving their bodies, improving their health and resetting their health and fitness goals for the rest of the year” – an ambition to be commended.

Lastly, the ‘Move Nourish Believe’ market that was held after the group fitness class was also a huge success and a complimenting touch to a great morning. On show and offer were delectable nutrition post-workout treats, pampering goodies and some fabulous Lorna Jane gear for purchase.

A hugely successful day on all accounts – if you missed it, don’t worry – Active Nation Day will be back again in 2015, on Sunday the 29th of September, so mark it in your diary and I’ll see you there!
