3 Tips To Get You Into Shape For Summer

By  |  0 Comments

Spring is well and truly here. There have been some lovely sunny days lately to remind us that summer is just around the corner. Now is the time of year when many people start to freak out about the extra kgs they’ve put on over winter and it’s time to whip into shape quick smart! At my St Kilda East personal training facility I deal with clients every day who come to us for weight loss. I see many of the same habits and lifestyle choices causing all the problems.

Here are 3 tips for the quickest way to make lasting changes to your body. If you try them out over the next couple of months you can literally transform how you look and feel, just in time for summer.

Eliminate ‘Processed’ Foods

This is one of the biggest contributors to weight gain and is also one of the most important things to do to lose body fat and get lasting results. For most people this is going to mean cutting out the daily intake of things like bread, pasta, muffins, wraps, noodles and foods containing SUGAR. Some people will find this quite easy, but some people may find this very hard. I have personal training clients who literally have ‘withdrawal’ symptoms like headaches and mood swings for the first few days after eliminating these foods. However, it’s the quickest way to achieve your fat loss goals and feel energetic, healthy and vibrant again. Weight loss aside, eliminating these foods will do wonders for your health and will add years on to your life. Eating these foods is also the biggest thing holding people back from achieving their body transformation goals. You can count calories all you like but nothing compares to making good food choices in regards to the TYPE and QUALITY of food you eat. So ditch the man made processed foods, even just for 1 month and see how you look and feel.

Start Some Weight Training
Many people are unaware that weight training is one of the best ways to completely change your body and lose body fat. Not only will it burn a lot of calories but also it will ramp up your metabolism for a good 24 hours afterwards. It will make you look more ‘toned’ and it will change the shape of your body where cardio or just dieting alone cannot. If you were to pick one thing to do, then some high intensity, metabolic weight training is going to give you the biggest bang for your buck and don’t worry ladies it won’t make you big and bulky! If you haven’t had much experience with this before I recommend you get the help of a personal trainer to show you what you need to do and how to do it.

Cut Out Alcohol

If you’re in the habit of having 1 or 2 glasses of wine or beer with your dinner (or breakfast or lunch for that matter) then this could be a big obstacle on your weight loss quest. Apart from being high in calories itself, having alcohol in your body will actually halt any fat burning until it’s long out of your system. If you have body fat to lose then think about where you can cut out alcohol. Can you eliminate it completely for a while? Maybe only one day on the weekend? It will help! If you are going to drink for a special occasion, then choose better alternatives like vodka and soda water with (real) lime for example. This is much lower in calories than most other drinks, plus you get the benefit of drinking a whole glass of water with every drink.
